Mother Angeline McCrory Manor | Columbus, Ohio
A design which incorporates the household/neighborhood unique concept to evoke a neighborhood feel throughout all levels of the community.
Each resident room is part of a “household” (cluster of 21 rooms) that forms a “Neighborhood” and shares a typical home’s gathering spaces such as the Family Nourishment Island, Activity Area, Dining Room and Living Rooms.
The building is situated along a major corridor leading into the Downtown area of a Metropolitan City. Its existing campus encompasses an Assisted Living and Independent Living Facility surrounded by mature landscape and a nearby river. The orientation takes full advantage of the vistas connecting the resident to the Rural and Urban qualities of the community.
This community was designed with the mental and physical wellness of its residents in mind. The neighborhoods have access to a Roof Garden Terrace for memory-stimulating opportunities where the resident can watch vegetation grow and harvest it for eating.
The footprint of the building evolved from a philosophy of care that promotes wellness and socialization in a healing environment.
As one enters the facility, one will be greeted by the sensory stimulation of a “City Center” similar to a Main Street, and provides a Coffeehouse, Library and Chapel as anchors to an outdoor piazza. A magnet for activities, the space provides a sense of place with its natural light and empower the residents to maintain information flow and patterns of daily living.
